In just three weeks! September 13th is the day of the Grand Opening of the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center right here in Indianola! B.B. has always called Indianola home and we are so proud that he does!
So mark your calendars! The Ribbon Cutting will be on Saturday the 13th when the first people will walk through the doors of the Museum! (I've had a couple of sneak previews and it is more than fabulous!)
Battle of the Bands starts at 10:30, the ceremonies at 11:00 or so and Indianola is going all out to entertain our guests who come to honor B.B. all afternoon! We're calling it the GO Community Celebration (GO is for Grand Opening!) Save the Museum for another day and just enjoy the GO Celebration!
Here's a little bit of what we're planning for the day........
Live Music on the streets from 10:00 until 6:00.
Giant Birthday Card for everyone to sign for B.B
Children's Play Place (all free) with blow up toys, face painting, clowns,
souvenir to color and take home, games, Museum of Art program,
Kermit the Frog, Story Time..... Kids will love Indianola!
Culinary Arts School from MDCC doing cooking demos from 12 to 6
MS Museum of Natural History with their traveling animal exhibit
Old films of Blues players at Holly Ridge shown all day at the Library
Gospel Group singing in Bailey Hall all afternoon
Delta Artists Group in a temporary Gallery on Front Street
Artists, authors, photographers, potters to show and sell their creations
Hand-made Furniture of willow and salvaged cypress from buildings
Arts and Crafts, Farmer's Market, and wonderful Southern Festival Food with Bar-B-Que, Hot Tamales, Fried Catfish, Hushpuppies, Hamburgers.
Churches will be open to view the stained glass and visit with members
Shuttles pulled by tractors will "carry visitors around" town
And of course Lunch at The Crown from 10:00 a.m. until......
